Windward Islands
St. Vincent, Grenadines and the Windward Islands
The “Windward Islands” are a group of 125 islands whose name comes from the prevailing Northeast trade winds. The volcanic origin of these islands gives them a scenic landscape scattered with rugged beautiful mountains and outstanding beaches.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines are the legendary yachting areas that is legendary for its breathtaking beauty that is only surpassed by its aquamarine waters. This paradise offers many secluded areas for snorkeling and enjoying the vibrant marine life that is prevalent in this area. This area has an enjoyable pleasant year round climate. Many yachts that serve the Virgin Islands and Windward Islands head to the Leeward island chains during the hurricane season as its location is outside of the designated hurricane area.
Other islands in this group include Bequia, Mustique and Grenada. With many remote and uninhabited islands scattered throughout this area, the excitement of discovering an undisturbed beach for a memorable picnic is just what your yacht crew is hoping to deliver.
The sailing in this area can be adventurous as there is more open water between the islands. A typical itinerary in the Grenadines may look like this:
Your charter experience begins with your crew picking you up in beautiful Canouan. From Canouan we would sail to Mustique where it’s fun to get off the boat and view the beautiful homes of the rich and famous. If guests would like to enjoy spa services this area is plentiful with unbelievable experiences. Basil’s bar is a famous Mustique hang out for Mick Jaegar and other celebrities.
From Mustique we would sail to Bequia. This quaint little island has good diving, the Hagg seaturtle sanctuary and it’s downtown is a cute street filled with good people watching and fun stores. The island also has Moonhole Bay which has some unique architecture built into the cliffs.
From Bequia we sail to Mayreau which has a beautiful beach and quiet anchorage. Perfect day to lay in the hammock and do nothing or get some diving in.
Mayreau to Union is more of a quick drive to a gorgeous bay where you can waterski, dive, walk on the beach or just hang out. It also has a great town to explore.
From Union we would motor to Tobago Cays. If you haven’t seen pictures of the Cays yet, look them up. There is not much need for explanation here. People usually want to stay a couple of days here because it is so beautiful. We recommend a dive called Mayreau gardens. This one has to be taken with a local dive company but is worth it. It’s a drift dive along a well protected reef. One of our favorite in the Caribbean.
From Tobago we sail back to Canouan. The beach here is beautiful the island is worth exploring, it’s also a great place for water sports, or since it’s the last night just enjoy the hammock before the flight the next day.
