US Virgin Islands

trunk-bay_virgin-islands.jpgThree islands comprise the US Virgin Islands:  St. Thomas, St. John’s and St. Croix.  Each offers a unique Caribbean experience that is not to be missed on your yacht charter experience.  The close proximity of St. Thomas to the Spanish Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands make it a likely starting point for your yacht charter experience.  With an extensive daily flight schedule from San Juan, Puerto Rico and the mainland US, you can reach St. Thomas from virtually any US airport to begin your charter vacation.  However, if your group is larger than six people, you will need to transfer by ferry to Tortola, British Virgin Islands or fly directly to the BVI’s as US Coast Guard regulations limit the size of charter groups leaving from the US Virgin Islands.  Your broker at NV Yacht Charters can assist you with every detail of your transfer to meet your luxury yacht.

St. Thomas as the capital of the United States Virgin Islands is the hub of activity.  It is 32 square miles in geography that is mountainous and offers spectacular panoramic views from higher elevations.  The tax free nature of the shopping here make the downtown area of Charlotte Amalie a favorite for charter guests.  St. Thomas is also home to one of the acclaimed “Magens Bay” which is crowned one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by National Geographic and Conde Naste magazines.

St. John’s offers pristine beauty as it is largely comprised of US National Park lands making a visit here a special experience.  With two thirds of the island preserved as a National Park endowed by the Rockefeller Family, this island is the greenest island in the Caribbean.  With gorgeous white sand beaches, hiking trails marked by tropical foliage and historical sugar mills, St. John’s is an excellent choice for a romantic day frolicking along the shore or a family adventure.  Your charter crew will undoubtedly find an anchorage here for you to enjoy a wonderful snorkel experience or just a day at the beach.

St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands with 82 square miles of beautiful scenery and beaches.  It is located 40 miles south of St. Thomas.  The island has many European influences as its history shows it was once inhabited by Indians, discovered by Christopher Columbus, claimed by Spain, taken over by the French in 1650, sold to Denmark in 1733.  The United States purchased the islands from Denmark in 1917 for $25 million.  The island is rich in architecture and history and Buck Island is a reknowned scuba dive site.
